Colts player sends cryptic message over social media, and it has fans believing he might retire ahead of the offseason
The Colts may not have the option to re-sign a player who performed well in 2025 if his recent social media post means what it sounds like.
The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of things to figure out this offseason. They know general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen will lead the charge, but that’s just a step towards them figuring out what their team looks like when the 2026 season arrives.
The defensive side of the ball is likely where the most changes will occur. They are having to wait to see if their defensive coordinator, Lou Anarumo, lands a head coaching position, but even if he is back, they need to improve the roster he’s working with. A player who performed well for them this season could be an option to bring back, but not if he retires from the NFL.
Germaine Pratt thanks the Colts in a social media post, leading some to believe he could be retiring from the NFL
The Colts brought in veteran LB Germaine Pratt midway through the year, and he provided a solid boost to a struggling room. He spent 12 games with the Colts, recording 101 total tackles and five tackles for loss. This was a reunion between Pratt and Anarumo after the two spent multiple years with the Cincinnati Bengals.
In Pratt’s post, he made sure to include a picture of him and Anarumo from this season, accompanied by a simple message: “Thank you.” Many think this message is a sign that Pratt could be saying goodbye to his long-time coach and the Colts.
Now, would that be because he doesn’t plan to re-sign with the Colts in the offseason? Or is it because the nearly 30-year-old LB and seven-year NFL veteran is ready to call it quits on his career? Either way, we likely won’t find out for sure what his post means, if anything, for a while. My hunch, though, is that we likely won’t see Pratt back with the Colts in 2026.
