One of Kliff Kingsbury’s first head coaching interviews sets up a potential revenge game for Commanders
Kliff Kingsbury might have to face the Commanders next season after landing an interview for the Titans’ head coaching job.
The Washington Commanders are moving forward with massive changes to the coaching staff after head coach Dan Quinn made the only move he had left.
Quinn decided to move on from both Joe Whitt Jr. and Kliff Kingsbury, and now the search begins for both coordinator positions. Kingsbury has already had plenty of buzz at both head coach and offensive coordinator jobs around the league. He’s officially landed his first two head coaching interviews, and he will have to face the Commanders if he gets one of them.
Kliff Kingsbury to interview for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens head coach openings
We knew that it wouldn’t take long for Kingsbury to get interest, and the recent offensive coordinator is looking to take a jump back up as a head coach. He will have his opportunities with a limited amount of offensive-minded candidates this cycle, and already has interviews with the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens.
Both landing spots would be perfect fits with Lamar Jackson and Cam Ward, and Kingsbury would also have a chance to play the Commanders next season if he gets the Titans job.
The Commanders have to play in Tennessee next season
The Commanders already have their opponents set for the 2026 season, and sure enough, they’ll be heading to Nashville to take on the Titans, which would set up a revenge game between the Commanders and Kingsbury.
Did the Commanders and Kliff Kingsbury have a disconnect?
There have been reports about a disconnect between Kingsbury and either Quinn or general manager Adam Peters, and the breakup seems like something went wrong. You don’t often see a team part ways with a coordinator just for him to get head coaching interviews immediately.
Kingsbury’s frustrations were visible whenever he spoke to the media, and he had to overcome numerous obstacles that would annoy any coach. Starting back in the offseason, Kingsbury spoke about how hard it was not having Terry McLaurin on the field due to his contract holdout for the entire offseason.
Then came all the injuries throughout the season, and the offense never had a chance to succeed, yet it wasn’t the real problem with this team last year. Now, the Commanders are seeking stability on offense to continue developing Jayden Daniels, and Kingsbury is looking to land in an ideal spot as a head coach once again. Their paths could cross in the near future, and it would be a storyline with a lot of build behind it.
