The Dolphins’ first win of the 2026 calendar year may complicate Miami’s offseason plans
The price of success may have just went up.
The Miami Dolphins‘ 2026 calendar year didn’t start off particularly well, as the Dolphins were handed a sound defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots in Week 18 of the 2025 regular season. But six days later, the team does in fact have their first win of the calendar year! The Associated Press has spoken and released their selections for the 2025 All-Pro honors.
There are two Miami Dolphins on the list — and both will gladly take the extra ammo for any contract talks with Miami’s front office this offseason.
LB Jordyn Brooks, C Aaron Brewer named All-Pros for 2025 season
Let this be your latest reminder of the outrageous level the Pro Bowl selection process has become. Neither LB Jordyn Brooks or C Aaron Brewer was named to the Pro Bowl, but were given nods from the Associated Press as some of the best talents in the game for their play on the field this season.
Brooks led the league in tackles this season, but his tackles aren’t the reason for his recognition. Brooks set a career high in tackles for loss (13), posted 3.5 sacks, and posted a missed tackle rate of just 5.2% of his challenges. He was sensational this season. His recognition as one of the two best linebackers in football is well-deserved and a proper nod to Miami’s defensive captain.
Aaron Brewer, on the other hand, was named as Second-Team All-Pro behind Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey — a staple in the postseason awards. Humphrey also was named First-Team All-Pro last season.
Both players came to Miami through the 2024 free agency window. Both signed three-year contracts in Miami and have not only been hits from the pro scouting department, they’ve quickly become unquestioned leaders. What happens with both next will be fascinating — Miami is undergoing major changes this offseason that could interrupt the play of both talents going into contract years. Both are also logical candidates for extensions if new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan makes it a priority to lock in the best players in the franchise on long-term deals to serve as building blocks.
They’ll have a new round of ammunition for any extension talks thanks to the AP’s voting on postseason honors. Both players are under contract for 2026, but set to hit free agency after that. As current pillars on the roster, what the Dolphins choose to do from here will be a good test. The memories of Chris Grier’s tenure as the Dolphins general manager won’t be looked back upon kindly — at least for now. But his signings of Brooks and Brewer do prove to be a gift that keeps on giving.
