The Ohio State Buckeyes are beginning to heat up in the transfer portal.

Ohio State has lost nearly 30 players to the transfer portal, and it definitely won’t bring in that many replacements. The Buckeyes picked up a key addition on Sunday with former Florida State S Earl Little Jr., and now they’ve landed another player for the secondary.

Former Duke S Terry Moore commits to Ohio State

The Buckeyes have found the player who’ll fill in for Caleb Downs’ role for the 2026 season. Ohio State has received a commitment from former Duke Blue Devils standout Terry Moore, who was its top safety target in the transfer portal.

Moore was one of the best safeties in college football during the 2024 season, recording four interceptions, 71 tackles, two forced fumbles, and 7.5 tackles for a loss. The former Duke safety missed all of 2025 with an ACL injury, but is expected to be ready for his senior season in 2026.

Coming out of North Carolina in high school, Duke recruited Moore as a running back. As a true freshman in 2022, Moore had 128 rushing yards on 29 attempts in eight games played. Moore followed that up with a move to safety in 2023, when he had 43 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, and handled some kickoff duties.

If it weren’t for injury, Moore likely wouldn’t be playing college football in 2026 and would be off to the NFL. Ohio State is likely to fill in Little as the nickel, and Moore should start at safety alongside Jaylden McClain.

Ohio State picks up a key win with a 6-1, 200-pound safety who can help alleviate the loss of Downs. The Buckeyes can’t fully replace an All-American like Downs, but this is a great attempt to do so with an experienced player.
