Oklahoma Sooners have new opportunity to reunite with familiar face after his bad luck forced him out of Norman

This would be a risky move that could pay off for the Sooners offense.

College football’s landscape continues to change. One thing is certain, though. Expect the unexpected. For the Oklahoma Sooners, reuniting with an intriguing former player could be on their radar soon.

Former Sooners WR Nic Anderson back in transfer portal

A familiar face for Sooners fans is back on the transfer portal market. Interestingly enough, he plays a position that Oklahoma could use another experienced player at for the 2026 season. Nic Anderson is planning to enter the portal once again after this past season at LSU.

Anderson caught 12 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns this past season for the Bayou Bengals.

His 2024 season was consistently down trodden due to a lingering quad injury. His role with the Tigers in 2025 did not spark a ton of faith that he will ever get back to his old self when it comes to using his physicality and stature as a wideout.

Sooner faithful still think fondly of his 2023 campaign — for good reason. Now, he is looking for one more college opportunity to produce while staying available health-wise.

Sooners could use another pass catcher for 2026, but this would be risky

I discussed the potential fit of a return for Anderson with Justin Churchill, who covers the Sooners for A to Z Sports. It is tough to imagine that the wideout will be healthy enough to be a star in the SEC again, but the potential remains.

“The Oklahoma Sooners counted on Nic Anderson to be their star receiver in 2023 as a redshirt freshman. And, he was just that, finishing with almost 800 yards on a pretty good offense. Not to mention, he had the game-winning touchdown catch against the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry. In his third season, he was supposed to be the next superstar receiver at OU, and it just didn’t work out that way because of injuries.

After the frustrating 2024 season, Anderson, along with many other players, decided to transfer. At LSU, it wasn’t anything like what it was when he was a redshirt freshman. If he can stay healthy and is in a good situation, Anderson can be a really good receiver. But that’s a big if, as he played through some injuries last season and just didn’t look to have it at times. The 2023 version of him is a version that almost every team in the country would like to have. However, it’s been two years, and he could be a completely different player now due to those injuries.” — Justin Churchill, A to Z Sports
