Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) talks with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll after a Thursday Night Football game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Oct. 9, 2025.

The Philadelphia Eagles granted a key win for fans earlier this week. They are moving on from Kevin Patullo as their offensive coordinator.

While he may stay on staff in some way, he won’t be calling offensive plays next season. It was a necessary step forward for the expected staff in Philly for 2026 and possibly beyond. The latest report on their potential replacements at OC are rather tantalizing

Eagles are clearly eyeing top candidates for their OC position

According to Dianna Russini, Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll are at the top of the Eagles’ list of targets for their offensive coordinator opening. McDaniel was fired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins earlier this offseason. Daboll was fired as the head coach of the New York Giants during the season.

McDaniel is currently interviewing for some head coaching openings as well. There is no doubt that the NFL respects what he has accomplished as a young offensive mind so far in his career. For Daboll, he is expected to get multiple OC interviews this offseason as well.

McDaniel’s fit for Eagles offense

The play caller’s stock has dropped over the last two years, partly due to injuries to his Miami offense and also the inconsistency of Tua Tagovailoa. That being said, his unit in 2023 took the NFL by storm and was amongst the league’s elite in most every important offensive category, including scoring.

For McDaniel, he may have to make some adjustments if Jalen Hurts remains the starting QB for the Eagles – simply because of his play style. We’ve seen Hurts become a bit more risk-averse in recent years, whether that was a proponent of the play calling or not. It was especially evident in 2025.

Although, his mobility aspect and potential preference to play “on-time” in the passing game could play to McDaniel’s favor when it comes to his scheme. It seems like an offensive marriage that makes some sense and also has legs from an interest standpoint.

Daboll’s fit for Eagles offense

The former Giants HC has ties to Jalen Hurts, as he was on staff at Alabama while Hurts played there. Additionally, his offense has shown a prominence to use a QB’s mobility to its advantage. He got impressive play out of Daniel Jones earlier in his career, and Daboll’s biggest resumé piece is playing a hand in Josh Allen’s development in Buffalo.

Daboll also has ties to the front office for New York as well.

“Additionally, there are plenty of links to both Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman. Sirianni and Daboll worked together with the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2012, when Daboll was the offensive coordinator and Sirianni was the wide receivers coach. When Sirianni was hired as head coach of the Eagles, he credited Daboll as “one of his biggest mentors” from their time together in Kansas City. Daboll also shares an agent, Bob LaMonte, with Howie Roseman, something that could be a potential explanation for why teams felt that way regarding the mutual interest this offseason.”

No matter what – these are two massive names that are on the Eagles’ radar as a decision looms for their offense’s future.
