The Tennessee Volunteers are finally starting to get rolling in the transfer portal after a slow start.

While the talk has been about the Vols’ swings and misses at the quarterback position, with Tennessee missing out on former Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt and Alabama’s Ty Simpson, the Vols have quietly started to assemble some notable pieces elsewhere. They’ve added All-Big Ten linebacker Amare Campbell, safety Dejuan Lane, and edge rusher Chaz Coleman from Penn State, safety Qua Moss from Kansas State, and safety TJ Metcalf from Michigan, among others.

And they made things a family affair regarding the latter on Saturday. According to On3 Sports, Hayes Fawcett, Tennessee has landed the commitment of TJ’s brother and Michigan teammate, Tevis Metcalf.

TJ committed to Tennessee earlier in the week and was a notable pickup for Josh Heupel and Jim Knowles. He had 58 tackles, an interception, and four passes defended for the Wolverines last season. He should come in and push for a substantial role in Knowles’ defense. With Moss, Metcalf, and Lane coming in, the safety position looks substantially improved going into the 2026 offseason.

Tevis’ playing time at Michigan was substantially lower than his that of his brother in 2025. He appeared in three games in 2025 for the Wolverines, notching three tackles with a forced fumble.

However, it’s pretty clear that he and his brother are close, as they are now making their second transfer together. Both went from Arkansas to Michigan after the 2024 season and are now coming to Knoxville together.

And with the way Tennessee’s secondary looked at times in 2025, they can use all the help they can get.
