It didn’t take long at all for former Cleveland Browns HC Kevin Stefanski to find another gig leading an NFL team.

News broke on Saturday night that Stefanski would be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Just a couple of weeks after being fired by the Browns, Stefanski is a head coach for the second time.

Kevin Stefanski very well could take Tommy Rees to Atlanta with him

Now that Stefanski is with Atlanta, he’ll get to work building his staff quickly. Cleveland was the only head coaching job that Stefanski has held, so it’s no surprise that he’s likely to reach back into Cleveland to build out his staff. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Browns OC Tommy Rees is a strong candidate to join the Falcons as an offensive coordinator.

Rees has spent the last two seasons with the Browns and took over play-calling partially through 2025 when Stefanski gave up the job. The Browns’ offensive coordinator interviewed for Cleveland’s head coaching job, along with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Rees started as the tight ends coach last season, then was the offensive coordinator for Cleveland in 2025.

Stefanski becoming the second head coaching hire behind the New York Giants hiring John Harbaugh shows he was a highly coveted candidate. Atlanta moved on hiring Stefanski before he could get a second interview with the Tennessee Titans. Stefanski was 45-56 over six seasons in Cleveland. That number was defeated by a 8-26 record by the Browns over the last two seasons.

With Cleveland hiring a new coach and Stefanski landing in Cleveland — it appears that Rees’ time in Northeast Ohio has come to an end. Unless the Browns make a shocking move to make Rees their head coach, the likelihood is that the former Notre Dame quarterback is tracking to Atlanta.

A note worth remembering to all of this is that the Browns will host the Falcons next fall.
