The NFL’s coaching carousel is heating up even more now that the first few head coaches have been hired, with John Harbaugh to the New York Giants and Kevin Stefanski to the Atlanta Falcons. The Las Vegas Raiders could soon find their guy, but they’ve got to interview everyone first. This process is so important for them as they finally try to find the HC to get them back to the postseason.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Raiders have asked a few head coaching candidates to meet them in Miami at the National Championship Game, where minority owner Tom Brady is also expected to be.

This isn’t something you see a ton. In fact, I’m not sure I can remember the last time a team asked the candidates they were interviewing to meet them at a National Championship game.

Raiders wanting to meet with HC candidates in Miami at the National Championship Game has to mean something

Maybe this is just the most convenient thing for the Raiders since Brady is in Miami. But it’s not like he’s working the game; he does NFL games. Maybe they just want to ask the candidates to meet them there, since the decision-makers will all likely be there anyway, watching Fernando Mendoza, the potential No. 1 pick.

There’s another theory to float out there. Maybe, just maybe, they want the potential head coach of their franchise to watch Mendoza in person at the National Championship Game, to show off what they’re about to get. Having the No. 1 pick in the draft and the option to draft a franchise quarterback is one of the biggest selling points you can have.

Maybe the Raiders want to see which HC candidate is willing to meet them in Miami for an interview. These types of things are something we won’t ever really know unless we’re in the room. What we do know is that, to my knowledge, none of the teams with open HC spots has asked other HCs to meet them in Miami.
