Two NFL head coaching jobs have been filled this hiring cycle so far, and the Cleveland Browns are one of the teams that remain with an opening this week.

Cleveland has cast a wide net in its coaching search over the last week. The Browns will begin doing second interviews this week and could take a big step toward finding their next Kevin Stefanski replacement

The Browns would make history if they hire Jaguars OC Grant Udinski

Cleveland will start the week by having a second interview with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for the head job. The Browns will then have Baltimore Ravens OC Todd Monken in on Tuesday.

After that, the Browns have requested to interview Chargers DC Jesse Minter, former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel, Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, and Jaguars OC Grant Udinski.

If the Browns hire Udinski as their head coach, he will be the youngest in NFL history at 30 years old. Rams HC Sean McVay currently holds that record, having been hired two weeks before his 31st birthday. That’s worked out great for the Rams, and since then, everyone has been trying to find the next McVay — a bright young offensive mind who can take a team and be the franchise head coach.

Udinski has just one year of experience as an offensive coordinator with the Jaguars, and before then spent time working under Kevin O’Connell with the Minnesota Vikings. Udinski started as an assistant to the head coach in 2022, then was the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2023. By 2024, Udinski was the assistant offensive coordinator, which earned him a shot with the Jaguars as the offensive coordinator.

Cleveland has a struggling offense that badly needs a spark, paired with an elite defense on the other side of the football. The Browns bringing in an offensive-minded coach to keep Schwartz in place as the defensive coordinator is the ideal move.

Udinski has interest from multiple other NFL teams, so the Browns may have to act this week if they want him.
