The Las Vegas Raiders are searching for their next head coach, and they’ve already decided who to give a second interview to.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will interview in person for the Raiders HC job next week in South Florida. We know, via Dianna Russini of The Athletic, that the Raiders are interviewing HC candidates in Miami during the National Championship. Evero also met virtually with the club last week. The Pittsburgh Steelers are also in the running for Evero, as he has an interview with them coming up.

Evero performed well enough in 2025 to retain his job if not hired by new team

The Panthers had a pretty good defense in 2025, which was one of the few reasons they were even good enough to make the postseason, and almost beat the Los Angeles Rams. That, and the fact that the NFC South just isn’t very good. Everywhere he’s been, he’s had a good defense. Evero was with the Denver Broncos before Denver hired Vance Joseph.

“I have complete trust in Ejiro,” Panthers HC Dave Canales told reporters during his end-of-season press conference. “Love the way that he’s brought this group to play quality football together. He’s got my full support. And love our scheme, love what we do there. Getting our guys to play together when we execute this scheme is really difficult to play against. And the guys have found a way to play together, communicate together.”

The Raiders need a hard-nosed, culture-based guy like Evero who knows how to get the best out of nothing. They have been great on defense the last few years, all things considered. Grabbing Evero would be a great hire, especially knowing they would have a guy who fits what they want to be as a franchise and what they once were—a mean, defensive-minded team.
