The Green Bay Packers will once again have to look for a defensive coordinator — the fourth one under head coach Matt LaFleur. Jeff Hafley has been hired as the Miami Dolphins head coach, and that will force the Packers to make significant coaching staff adjustments.

Not only will the Packers lose Hafley, who had been an immense upgrade over his predecessor Joe Barry, but the former defensive coordinator can now take some of the Packers assistants with him to Miami.

So, let’s discuss which coaches Green Bay may lose over the next few days.

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich or passing game coordinator Jason Vrable

The favorite to become the Dolphins/Titans offensive coordinator is Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks coach Steve Shimko, who worked under Hafley at Boston College and made the transition to the NFL last year as well.

However, if Hafley wants to build something similar to what the Packers have, he could take one of the Packers’ top offensive assistants with him. Green Bay would have to greenlight a Stenavich interview, but it would be an upgrade for him as a play-caller. The other option is Jason Vrable, who’s climbed the ladder under LaFleur as an offensive assistant, wide receivers coach, and passing game coordinator. If Stenavich leaves, Vrable would be the favorite for a promotion.

Quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion

The other option is rising assistant Sean Mannion. A former NFL quarterback, he was hired as an offensive assistant in 2024 and promoted to quarterbacks coach last year. He will be one of the offensive coordinators in the Shrine Bowl, and everyone who’s been around him says he’s a future head coach. The question here is that Mannion would only leave Green Bay to be an offensive coordinator, most likely.

One of defensive line coach/run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington and passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley

Moving to the defensive side of the ball, Jeff Hafley will need a defensive coordinator under him. The top two defensive assistants in Green Bay are DeMarcus Covington and Derrick Ansley, both with defensive coordinator experience in the NFL. One can go with Hafley, and the other would become the favorite for internal promotion if the Packers go that route.

Linebackers coach Sean Duggan

Duggan was Boston College’s co-defensive coordinator under Hafley and followed him to Green Bay — first as a defensive assistant, then promoted to linebackers coach in 2025. It’s natural that Duggan would follow Hafley once again.

Assistant defensive line coach Vince Oghobaase

Oghobaase was BC’s defensive line coach. In Green Bay, he’s worked two full seasons as an assistant DL coach — first behind Jason Rebrovich, then under DeMarcus Covington. If Covington goes as a DC, for example, it would be natural to hire Oghobaase as the DL coach.
