Raiders could already have two favorites for their vacant head coaching job, Vegas just needs them to lose in the playoffs
The Raiders need their new head coach badly.
The Las Vegas Raiders could soon know who they would prefer as their head coach, depending on which teams lose in the postseason this weekend.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports that the Raiders are focused on hiring an offense-minded coach. They are leaning toward Denver Broncos QB coach Davis Webb or Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, as they believe either would best support their future quarterback and offensive scheme.
“The Raiders are believed to be focusing on an offensive-minded head coach to pair with the likely No. 1 overall pick in Indiana quarterback, Fernando Mendoza,” Schultz said. “Along with weapons like Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty. I have heard a lot of Klint Kubiak and Davis Webb mentioned here. Within league circles, the belief is that this will ultimately be an offensive hire.
“The question is simply who that will be. John Spytek and Tom Brady will make that decision collectively. It’s worth mentioning Brady has been calling a ton of Seattle Seahawks games as of late, and will be doing one Sunday in the NFC Championship game. Why is that important? Well, Brady has had a first-hand look at Klint Kubiak’s offense. And, he’s been putting on a masterclass on how to run an offense on explosiveness.”
The Raiders pairing an offensive-minded head coach with potential No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza would be genius
Everyone has seen what’s happened when you don’t keep your young QB in the same system often enough. Take a look at Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, for example. He just had a pretty bad season in his third year, after having a great rookie season. This season, he was in a different system than he was in the last two years. This happens often.
You want your quarterback to never have to worry about changing offensive systems, because that’s just an extra step every single season. If you keep your quarterback with the same play caller in the same system every year, he can only get better nd perfect that scheme more.
The Raiders have had so many different schemes and offensive coordinators over the last few years, even under defensive-minded head coaches. They don’t want that to happen with Mendoza, if that’s who they were to pick.
