Latest news should have Dallas Cowboys worried about losing a very valuable coach
After hiring their defensive coordinator, the Dallas Cowboys have something else to worry about on their coaching staff.
This is one we should have seen coming: With the Tennessee Titans hiring Robert Saleh as their head coach, the Dallas Cowboys may be about to lose a valuable member of Brian Schottenheimer’s coaching staff.
And on the heels of the Cowboys’ hiring of Christian Parker as defensive coordinator, it could be the first of many dominoes to fall.
Cowboys DL coach Aaron Whitecotton on DC watch
The Titans requested to interview Cowboys DL coach Aaron Whitecotton for their defensive coordinator opening, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The pairing would make plenty of sense based on their history together.
Whitecotton and Saleh have a long track record of working together, most recently on Saleh’s staff with the New York Jets, in which Whitecotton was a part of from 2021 to 2024. In 2020, both also coincided in San Francisco when Saleh was DC for the 49ers. Before that, both spent three years on the same staff at Jacksonville.
With Saleh getting a second shot at head coaching in Tennessee, it would make plenty of sense if his pick to run the defense with him is Whitecotton.
Losing Whitecotton would hurt for Dallas
The Cowboys value Whitecotton to the point of interviewing him for their DC opening before the staff settled on Parker. And a look at Quinnen Williams’ season is a good example of the impact he provides.
In eight games with the Jets in 2025, Williams recorded 19 pressures, two quarterback hits, and 16 hurries per PFF. When he arrived to Dallas via trade, Whitecotton made a chance to Williams’ stance to the same it was when they were both in New York. The results?
In seven games, he recorded 32 pressures, seven QB hits, and 23 hurries.
Christian Parker to have a say?
Even if Whitecotton doesn’t get hired to be the next Titans’ head coach, his future in Dallas is blurry at the moment. Though the Cowboys respect him and are likely to recommend him to Parker, hiring a new coordinator usually means allowing him to build his staff, his way.
I expect Parker to have plenty of input on what his staff looks like, and there’s a chance he doesn’t visualize Whitecotton in it. For now, Whitecotton is defensive coordinator of the East team at the East-West Shrine Bowl taking place at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
