The Denver Broncos lost more than starting QB Bo Nix in their AFC Divisional Round win against the Buffalo Bills.

As the Broncos get prepared to face the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, Jarrett Stidham will be the team’s starting quarterback after Nix suffered a season-ending lower leg injury in the final seconds of the AFC Divisional Round game. That wasn’t the only injury Denver faced after the win; two other players are now dealing with different ailments, leaving the team short-handed at other positions.

Denver Broncos to be without WR Troy Franklin and C Alex Forsyth vs. Patriots after divisional round injuries

The Broncos released their inactive players list for the AFC Championship Game. You can find those players below:

  • WR Troy Franklin
  • WR Michael Bandy
  • C Alex Forsyth
  • DT Jordan Jackson
  • DT Sai’vion Jones
  • LB Karene Reid
  • S JL Skinner

Wide receiver Troy Franklin was designated as questionable for this game after battling a hamstring injury suffered in the 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional round. The Broncos elevated two wide receivers from the practice squad for this game, but ultimately left only one active, with Michael Bandy inactive. Keep in mind that WR Pat Bryant is also coming off a concussion.

This leaves the Broncos dangerously thin at the wide receiver position with just five players active. A single injury to that group during the game could have major implications for the personnel they choose on a given down-and-distance. Even without an injury, I expect lots of 13 personnel with Adam Trautman, Evan Engram, Nate Adkins, and Adam Prentice involved.

Broncos receivers for AFC title game vs. New England Patriots

  • Courtland Sutton
  • Pat Bryant
  • Marvin Mims Jr.
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey
  • Elijah Moore (practice squad elevation)

As for Alex Forsyth, he suffered an ankle injury in the AFC Divisional Round. Luke Wattenburg’s return means he’ll slide into the starting center role, while Forsyth’s absence means Sam Mustipher will be Denver’s backup center on Sunday.
