The Cleveland Browns are closing in on a new head coach with a decision expected to surface anytime. Cleveland is in Los Angeles today interviewing Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, and he’s the leader for the job.

Cleveland going with a young offensive hire to transform their offense into a successful modern-day product makes sense. Current defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is another to watch for the job in Cleveland.

Latest NFL mock draft favors OC Nate Scheelhaase being the next head coach

In the latest A to Z Sports’ 3-round 2026 NFL mock draft ahead of the Senior Bowl, the Browns go with four offensive players in their four picks. A real investment by the team in the trenches to improve the team’s weakest point.

Round 1, Pick 6: Spencer Fano, OT, Utah

Round 1, Pick 24: Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia

Round 2, Pick 39: Chris Bell, WR, Louisville

Round 3, Pick 70: Brian Parker II, C, Duke

That’s three offensive linemen who could potentially start for the Browns on Day 1 in 2026 along with an upgrade at wide receiver. There’s a legitimate chance that the Browns have five new starters along the offensive line in 2026. Bell would be Cleveland’s No. 2 wideout from Day 1 and a key piece to an offense that lacks weapons.

The Browns would be passing on a quarterback in this mock draft

With this mock draft, the Browns would be either running it back with Shedeur Sanders or potentially giving Deshaun Watson one last chance under a new system. Another option that the team has is to bring in a veteran quarterback who can compete for the bridge opportunity.

If Sanders could turn into the franchise guy it would be massive for a team with an elite defense. Glimpses of potential showed in 2025, but poor play showed far too often to put stock in Sanders being the guy.

Expect an open competition in 2026 no matter what Cleveland’s quarterback room looks like.
