Ohio State football just took a key step toward taking an elite defender out of a Big Ten rival’s own backyard
The Buckeyes are one of the top schools for a key 2027 recruiting target.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have had a busy few weeks since the season ended with a loss to Miami in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State has dealt with the transfer portal and has its roster set for 2026 for the most part. The Buckeyes have also hired Cortez Hankton as the wide receivers coach and former Pittsburgh Steelers OC Arthur Smith as the new play caller.
And of course, recruiting never stops.
Ohio State makes top-6 for 2027 CB Josiah Molden
The Buckeyes have nine commitments so far for the class of 2027 and are the No. 3 class in the country, per 247 Sports. Ohio State just moved one step closer to landing 2027 West Linn (OR) CB Josiah Molden, as they’re one of six schools still in the mix.
Along with the Buckeyes, home state Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans, Washington Huskies, and Miami remain in the mix.
Molden is a 6-foot, 175-pound safety who is the younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers CV Elijah Molden and son of former NFL CB Alex Molden.
The Oregon native is ranked as the No. 20 cornerback and No. 195 overall player, per 247 Sports Composite. Molden is the top-ranked player in the state of Oregon.
Ohio State does not yet have a cornerback committed in the class of 2027 with four commitments on the defensive side of the ball. No. 1 EDGE DJ Jacobs is the class headliner, then four-star LB Quinton Cypher, four-star S Eli Johnson, and three-star S Angelo Smith are in the class.
Molden is being recruited by Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton and is amongst the top targets at the position.
