The Indianapolis Colts lost their defensive line coach this offseason when Charlie Partridge joined the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The team had to wait to fill that opening until they found out whether Lou Anarumo would return next season.

Thankfully, the Colts now know that Anarumo will return, as the three teams he interviewed for a head coaching position have hired other candidates. Which means Anarumo will be back for a second season as the Colts’ defensive coordinator.

Now, step one of the offseason will be to hire a new defensive line coach. With Partridge being retained from the previous defensive coaching staff, this will be Anarumo’s first time hiring a defensive line coach in Indy.

Time for the Colts to hire a new defensive line coach

When the Colts hired Partridge, it was viewed as a big swing. He was a very respected college defensive mind who turned down multiple NFL teams over the years. Sadly, it just didn’t work out between him and the Colts.

The Colts’ defensive line didn’t make the improvements under his leadership that the team hoped for; in fact, you could even argue that a few players regressed, led by Kwity Paye.

The Colts’ interior line looks pretty strong, but the edge room is essentially bare bones right now. Laiatu Latu and JT Tuimoloau are the only two players in the room under contract. The team needs to find a bright, defensive-minded coach who can help mold a new-look Colts defensive line in 2026, because improving the pass rush should be priority No. 1 this offseason.
