Bears breakout star earns another prestigious honor and receives a prediction he’d love to see come true in the coming weeks
Nahshon Wright got some high praise from Tom Brady over the weekend.
It’s already been quite the offseason for Chicago Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright coming off a breakout 2025 season.
Last week, Wright was a late addition to the NFC Pro Bowl roster replacing Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. Wright joined fellow teammates Kevin Byard, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman down at the event this weekend in San Francisco.
It was a much-deserved moment for Wright, who should have been one of the initial selections to the NFC roster weeks ago. It was good to see him finally get some proper respect for the season he had and it wasn’t the only form of respect he received last week.
Nahshon Wright named the LFG Best Value Player by Tom Brady
Former NFL quarterback and FOX commentator Tom Brady announced some of his LFG award selections over the weekend and named Wright as his LFG Best Value Player for the production he had with the Bears while playing on a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
“He had a tremendous season,” Brady explained. “He was an absolute turnover machine. The Bears, they didn’t do a great job between the 20’s, okay. The ball was moved a lot. But, when it came down to turning the ball over, they were better than every team in the league and he was a huge reason why.”
It’s hard to fault that argument from the GOAT and the award is certainly fitting for Wright’s performance during the 2025 season and based on the expectations he had coming into the season.
Wright finished the season with the most interceptions (5) among all cornerbacks while leading the league in total takeaways. No one in Chicago expected that kind of impact from Wright when he was signed last offseason.
It’s time for Nahshon Wright to cash in on a new contract, but will the Bears be interested?
The last line of Brady’s award announcement is the key detail that becomes the most important over the next few weeks.
“You’ve earned yourself quite a contract in the future,” Brady said. “And shoutout to Nahshon’s agent, you’re going to do pretty well too.”
After playing out that one-year deal, Wright is now slated to hit the open market again as an unrestricted free agent. With his Pro Bowl-worthy season, his price will be much higher than $1.1 million this time around.
That creates quite the dilemma for Chicago. The Bears are pretty much set at the cornerback position with Zah Frazier and Terell Smith expected to rejoin the group that already features two highly-paid players in Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon. Plus, the Bears are already tight against the cap to justify paying Wright a big contract, even if he made his future intentions crystal clear.
“I would like to be here, obviously, due to the fact that they’ve believed in me and I have Al (Harris) here, (Dennis Allen) who’s a great defensive coordinator, and Ben (Johnson) who’s doing a great job leading this team,” Wright said on 670 The Score in December. “Me and my agent have definitely had dialogue about it, but we haven’t heard anything yet.”
It’s an unfortunate reality for Wright, but another team is going to have a bag of cash ready to throw at Wright in free agency and he’s earned every penny.
