The Ohio State Buckeyes are off to a strong start in the class of 2027 recruiting, and there’s no real sign of them slowing down.

Ohio State has the No. 3-ranked class in the country with nine commitments so far for 2027, according to 247 Sports. While the Buckeyes missed out on a target on Monday, they can still make up for it in a big way.

Ohio State misses on five-star running back Kemon Spell

2027 five-star RB Kemon Spell committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Monday over Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Miami. Spell is the No. 1 running back in the country and a former Penn State commit. The top player in Pennsylvania was also one of the two running backs the Buckeyes were pushing for.

Spell is the No. 7 overall player and No. 1 running back, per 247 Sports Composite. The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back was offered by the Buckeyes back in April of 2025.

Buckeyes must be all in on David Gabriel Georges

Ohio State is a top contender for five-star RB David Gabriel Georges and that’s where the Buckeyes must turn the heat up on the No. 2 running back in the country. The belief is that the Buckeyes’ top target at the running back position is indeed Gabriel Georges.

Landing the star running back recruit won’t be easy but it’s needed. The 6-foot, 205-pound running back plays high school ball in Tennessee where the Volunteers are the top competition in his recruitment.

Ohio State and running backs coach Carlos Locklyn want to add a Day 1 difference maker this cycle. Gabriel Georges is just that and his recruitment just became that much more important for the Buckeyes with Spell off the board.
