Packers are set with a plan to fix a premium position, and Jordan Love should feel good about what’s coming

Jordan Morgan is the natural long-term solution at LT.

When the Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Morgan in the first round in 2024, there was an expectation that he could play guard right away and eventually become a tackle. The offensive lineman had to go through a lot over these first two seasons, playing multiple spots, probably without the ideal preparation.

But his time is coming. Rasheed Walker is set to hit free agency, and general manager Brian Gutekunst all but confirmed that Morgan will be the long-term left tackle.

“He’s going to get a lot of opportunities,” Gutekunst said on Wednesday. “I thought he played really well in the preseason at that spot and probably did enough to win that job, but then there were some injuries, and we had to do what was best for the team. We’ll see how it goes, but I think he’s probably excited to hunker down on one spot as well. That’s not always the case in the National Football League.”

Versatility vs. development

The Packers admitted that Morgan’s versatility got in his way to some degree. Throughout his first two seasons in the NFL, Morgan played 478 snaps at right guard, 256 at left guard, 148 at right tackle, and 51 at left tackle.

While LT is his natural position, Gutekunst didn’t rule out a scenario where the former first-rounder will still move around a little bit if needed.

“It would be ideal, but it’s unrealistic,” Gutekunst said when asked if Morgan would practice exclusively at left tackle. “We’ll probably have to cross-train all these guys. Sometimes, if you can keep a guy on the side, left or right, it’s helpful for him a little bit. His versatility has certainly helped us, that was one of the reasons we were drawn to him in the draft. His ability to play all those spots has been a benefit.”

Even though Morgan played most of his snaps at guard, he did play at tackle down the stretch in 2025 and secured some of his best games. While he’s a solid pass-blocker either way, his run blocking is particularly strong on the outside.

It’s always difficult to transition to the most important position on the offensive line. But if Morgan has to step in at left tackle, quarterback Jordan Love should feel pretty comfortable — and it’s a plan the Packers have had in motion for two years.
