Jeff Brohm has big plans for former Ohio State QB Lincoln Kienholz at Louisville, and it may end with the former Buckeye in the NFL
Lincoln Kienholz transferred from Ohio State for a chance to start and now he’s getting it at Louisville.
The Ohio State Buckeyes went through a lot of change during January’s transfer portal window. Among the 30+ players to leave the program, Ohio State lost its backup QB Lincoln Kienholz.
Ohio State is set to roll with redshirt freshman Tavien St. Clair as the backup to Julian Sayin in 2026.
On the flip side, Kienholz is chasing an opportunity to start at Louisville, and his new head coach sounds excited about it.
Jeff Brohm comments on what former Ohio State QB Lincoln Kienholz brings
“I think he has a good arm, just improving his ability to process, make good decisions, and be able to throw like an NFL quarterback is what we’re going to work hard at,” Brohm stated recently. “I think he’s made good strides up until this point, and he’s a willing learner too.”
Kienholz is going to have a chance to be the starter for Louisville this season after spending the last three seasons at Ohio State. Kienholz spent one season as the backup to Sayin and served as depth the previous two seasons.
“Does he have the experience and played on the field that much? No,” Brohm stated. “But he’s been at a great program, he’s learned under great coaches and a great team. He’s been around a winning team … and I think he’ll do a really good job.”
Kienholz played in 12 games at Ohio State and completed 21-of-36 passes for 250 yards, and one passing touchdown. Kienholz added 66 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground in 2025.
The former Buckeye will have two seasons left of eligibility after playing in only three games as a true freshman in 2023. Kienholz landing with Brohm, who has a proven track record with developing quarterbacks, may be the win he needs for the finish to his college career.
