Raiders’ star pass rusher Maxx Crosby is finally available, but it might be too little too late for Colts

Fans have wanted the Colts to trade for Maxx Crosby for a while, but now that he’s actually available, their odds of landing the star are slim to none.

Fans of the Indianapolis Colts have been begging the team to make a big win-now trade for a long time.

They finally did it in 2025 by landing former New York Jets CB Sauce Gardner ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline. Before this move, fans had mentioned multiple talented players they’d like to see land in Indy.

One of those players is Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Well, after multiple years of trade rumors, Crosby’s time with the Raiders seems to be coming to an end. Sadly, the timing couldn’t be worse for those who were dreaming of seeing Crosby wear the horseshoe on his helmet.

The Colts don’t have the war chest needed to entertain a trade for Maxx Crosby

To land Gardner, the Colts traded away their first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, along with WR Adonai Mitchell. Whoever lands Crosby will need to send a large trade package with draft picks doing the heavy lifting. That alone makes it nearly impossible for the Colts even to discuss a trade for Crosby.

Those facts may make some fans wish the Colts hadn’t traded for Gardner and instead used the capital on a player like Crosby. The Colts’ need for an improved pass rush warrants a big move, so I’d fully understand those who feel that way. Personally, I don’t hold that opinion, though.

Timing means everything when it comes to the Gardner trade and a potential Crosby trade now. Ahead of the trade deadline, the Colts had a real reason to think they might be a Sauce Gardner trade away from competing for a Super Bowl. And if injuries didn’t come into the picture, they might have been right.

I don’t think the Colts can look at how the season ended and think they are a Maxx Crosby trade away from competing for a Super Bowl. So even if they had their picks, I think it’s more than fair to say they wouldn’t have been a top contender to land the Raiders’ star pass rusher. The Crosby-to-Colts dream is going to have to stay just that, a dream.
