The Philadelphia Eagles have had their fair share of defensive strength in recent seasons. Their unbelievable performance from Super Bowl LIX shines bright when you look at the history of big game dominance.

Philly won that game, 40-22, and one of their most important players believes the Eagles still get overlooked to a degree because the final score wasn’t even worse for their opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs.

2024-2025 Eagles defense is somehow underrated after Super Bowl victory

In a social media ranking from BetMGM, they ranked the top eight Super Bowl defensive units since 2000. The 2025 Eagles came in at 8th – which was surprisingly low when you consider how quickly they took over against the Chiefs.

Former Eagles cornerback and impact defender on that team defended Philadelphia’s group from that game and made a key note that was probably overlooked when the list was made for social media.

“We didn’t even finish the game lol 2025 Eagles for sure top 4” — Slay via social media

You may be asking yourself, “If they allowed 22 points, was it truly that dominant?” The answer to that is a resounding “absolutely” in reality.

The Eagles sacked Chiefs superstar QB Patrick Mahomes six times, grabbed two interceptions, including a key pick six from Cooper Dejean that seemingly was the nail in the coffin for KC. As Slay noted, the top talent on their defense didn’t even have to keep their cleats on for the 4th quarter.

Philly got out to a 34-0 lead in the game, which allowed them to put in backups earlier than anyone expected on defense. None of those 22 points from the Chiefs were not in the competitive portion of the game.

Rather, the Chiefs did not score until the third quarter. Kansas City totaled just six points in the first three quarters. “Garbage time” stats against the Eagles surely affected their ranking mentioned above, and that shouldn’t have been the case.

That Eagles defense swarmed to the football, played with incredible energy, and made life extremely hard on Mahomes. They decided that football game and the NFL world champion before the second half even began. That is true dominance.
