The Green Bay Packers are keeping their trend to operate with in-house promotions on the offensive coaching staff. After losing Sean Mannion to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers are promoting senior offensive assistant Luke Getsy to quarterbacks coach. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news.

Jordan Love has a lot of familiarity with Getsy

Luke Getsy has a strong connection with Jordan Love, because he was Love’s first quarterbacks coach in the NFL. Getsy was the Packers’ QBs coach from 2019 to 2021, including the final two seasons as a passing game coordinator as well.

He left Green Bay in 2022 to become the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator under Matt Eberflus, but it wasn’t successful. He also had a short stint as the OC on the Las Vegas Raiders.

Due to his close connection with head coach Matt LaFleur, Getsy returned to the Packers on a part-time role for the final weeks of the 2024 season, right after being fired by Las Vegas. Initially, he was a defensive consultant — giving defensive coaches an offensive perspective.

Getsy got a full-time gig last year as a senior offensive assistant, and now he’s back to the QBs coach job.

  • 2022-2024 Tom Clements
  • 2025 Sean Mannion
  • 2026-present Luke Getsy

Luke Getsy has a long trajectory in Green Bay. He was initially hired in 2014 by Mike McCarthy as an offensive quality control coach, then promoted to wide receivers coach in 2016. He left the franchise in 2018 to become an offensive coordinator at Mississippi State, but returned under LaFleur in 2019.

Sean Mannion spent only one season as the Packers’ quarterbacks coach after replacing veteran Tom Clements, who decided to retire from the NFL. Mannion, a former quarterback who started coaching as an offensive assistant in Green Bay in 2024, left to become the Eagles’ play-calling offensive coordinator.

The Packers ran a quick search for his successor — a process that had to include at least one interview with an external minority candidate to comply with the Rooney Rule. Geeen Bay interviewed Arizona Cardinals pass game specialist Connor Senger, and no other interview had been reported. Ultimately, though, the favorite the win the job all along lands the position.
