The Gators haven’t been shy getting involved with five-star prospects over the course of the last few weeks, and it’s making an impact.

When it comes to high school recruiting, the Florida Gators aren’t stopping their efforts to bring in top talent.

Head coach Jon Sumrall‘s staff has been working overtime in bringing in five-star recruits for a visit. Offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller is already slated to take a visit to Gainesville in June, and wide receiver Easton Royal, who is committed to the Texas Longhorns, is also set to visit the Gators.

Five-star recruits haven’t been super fruitful for the Gators in recent years, but the tides are certainly appearing to change.

The offensive line has been a major focus for the Gators, and it starts with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, who can offer recruits something nobody else can: he’s been there.

“For me as a coach, I always wanted to come back and coach where I played, and where I learned football, where I learned how to be a man,” said Trautwein in a press conference earlier this week. “And then being able to help young men through the same journey that I’ve been in. And so for the first time as a coach, I say like, ‘I’ve been in your shoes,’ because I’ve literally been in your shoes.”

That approach has been working well, as Trautwein was the left tackle for Urban Meyer and won a national championship in the process. It’s made a big impression on five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown. He was supposed to visit Gainesville in January, but the winter storm that swept across the country prevented it from happening.

“Coach Trautwein came from Penn State, but he was part of the Tim Tebow era at Florida, so Florida’s home,” Brown told Rivals. “It’s a second home for him and I just love the way we’ve been building such a great relationship over these past couple of years. Ever since he’s been at Penn State, we’ve been building this relationship.”

Kennedy is the fourth overall recruit and second-ranked offensive tackle out of Kingwood, Texas. The Gators getting involved with Trautwein is a smart move, but they have some serious competition, including Texas, Texas A&M Aggies, and Oregon Ducks.

Imagine how good the vibes will be if the Gators end up getting two five-stars on the offensive line.
