Former Tennessee Vols athletes Rickea Jackson and James Pearce were involved in a scary altercation last weekend in Florida.
Pearce was arrested and charged with five felonies after he allegedly hit Jackson’s vehicle with his vehicle. Allegedly, the former Tennessee EDGE also intentionally struck a police officer with his car.
Jackson, a former standout Lady Vols basketball player, and Pearce had previously dated for “about three years”.
“Jackson accelerated away and started driving toward the Doral (Florida) Police Department,” ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported. “Pearce reentered his vehicle and continued following her. During the drive to the police station, Jackson said Pearce ‘intentionally collided into the rear of her vehicle’ with his SUV. As she got to the intersection near the police station, Jackson said Pearce cut her off with his car and when she attempted to back out and get away, he used his car to collide with hers head-on. The affidavit stated that photographs of Jackson’s vehicle showed damage consistent with her account.”
ESPN’s report also confirmed that an officer pulled a gun on Pearce during the arrest.
“According to the affidavit, they saw Pearce standing on the outside of his SUV on the driver’s side with the door open,” Raimondi reported. “An officer pulled a gun on Pearce and ordered him to get on the floor. Pearce got back in his car and closed the door. The officer opened the door, but Pearce shut it again, locked it and drove away.”
Police apprehended Pearce, who allegedly resisted arrest, after his car crashed at an intersection.
Jackson told police that she and Pearce had recently ended their relationship. The former Lady Vol also told police that she blocked Pearce’s phone number, but he continued to text her from different numbers.
Rickea Jackson offers to testify against James Pearce
According to ESPN, Jackson has offered to testify against Pearce if the domestic violence charges against him go to trial.
“In a notice of appearance and notice of victims’ rights (Marsy’s Law), Jackson’s attorneys requested the court to dedicate ‘all possible resources and personnel’ to the case to ‘conclude it as soon as practicable and bring justice to her and the people of the State of Florida,’” reported Raimondi.
“Jackson ‘remains cooperative and willing to testify at trial, if one is necessary,’ the attorneys wrote. Jackson is being represented by Gary F. Celetti and Wendy A.L. Beswick,” added Raimondi.
Pearce is facing two felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a felony count of aggravated stalking, a felony count of fleeing and eluding police officers, and a felony count of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. He’s also facing a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer without violence to his person.
