There’s a wild trade rumor circling about including one of the most decorated and crucial pieces for the Bills

This is, at least for 2026, not happening. At least we sure hope Dion Dawkins isn’t on another roster.

The Buffalo Bills are going to be shaking things up heading into 2026. The team has a new coach, a brand new stadium, both a new offensive and defensive coordinator, and the players on the field will look drastically different if everything goes smoothly during the offseason.

Buffalo was able to be more than competitive despite some clear issues with the roster. Specifically, the team struggled to bring down quarterback Bo Nix in the postseason, failing to sack him even once in the divisional round. That was an issue that was evident throughout the season: a lack of pass rush.

Not only that, but Buffalo needs to get quarterback Josh Allen some more dynamic playmakers surrounding him. No offense, but Mecole Hardman and Curtis Samuel shouldn’t be two of the top options in the biggest game of the season.

Dion Dawkins is rumored to be traded out of Buffalo

Rumors started swirling of a potential trade that I simply cannot get behind, and it features none other than star offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, the Shnowman.

The Bills Mafia loves Dawkins for his larger-than-life personality and ability to sandwich nearly any defender that comes his way. With such a huge offseason underway, it appears that no player might be safe at One Bills Drive, outside of Allen, of course.

Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase discussed the potential with Sal Capaccio on WGR550 to discuss the potential move away from Dion Dawkins. Breathe easy, Bills Mafia, it doesn’t look like there’s any real merit to the trade. But it’s the offseason, and that’s exactly the time these types of conversations happen.

Dion Dawkins is not getting traded, at least not anytime soon

“I saw a roundtable conversation [ . . . ] talking about what could happen and if there are any surprise moves on the way, and Dion Dawkins’ name came up as a potential trade candidate [ . . . ] not that it’s going to happen, but you know it’s an offseason where they did make a major change at coach and maybe other major changes are coming as well,” White said.

The whole idea of the Dawkins trade was just to spur some creative conversations, as Capaccio aluded to; it just doesn’t make any sense for Buffalo to move on from Dawkins, especially before June 1.

“I just don’t think financially it makes sense for the Bills [ . . . ] even a trade, I mean, you’re talking about, if you trade him before June 1st, it’s a $26m cap hit,” Capaccio said. “If you cut him, it’s still the same thing. If you wait until after June 1st, and you moved on from him. You could cut him and save $16m, but who would do that, I mean, he’s so valuable [ . . . ] I just don’t think right now the Bills are in a position to do that financially.”

Why Dawkins being traded doesn’t make any sense right now

Outside of the obvious points that Capaccio alluded to with the money aspect of trading Dawkins, the protection up front for Allen needs to remain in place, especially considering that the team might be losing two additional starting offensive linemen in David Edwards and Connor McGovern.

Trading Dawkins in an offseason where the team is already losing some key protection for Allen, after a season where Allen was sacked the most times in his career, would be a disaster waiting to happen. Yes, Buffalo needs weapons for Allen and to get after the quarterback, but they can’t make decisions that will impact Allen’s health and safety to just get him another target on the field.

All of that doesn’t matter if Allen can’t stand upright.

Could you imagine the outcry from the fan base if one of the most beloved members of the team was traded? Now, it would depend on the haul that they got in return, but the draft would most likely look a lot different if the team was heading into it trying to replace three offensive linemen, one of which being one of the best left tackles in all of football. I just can’t see it happening.

You don’t fix a pass-rush problem or a receiver issue by creating a protection crisis.

The Bills need upgrades, no doubt. But trading Dawkins would weaken one of the few stable pillars protecting Josh Allen, a quarterback who already took far too many hits in 2025.

If Buffalo is serious about 2026, it’s just as important that the priority be to keep Allen upright. The Shnowman isn’t going anywhere, and that’s a good thing for the Bills Mafia.
