The Las Vegas Raiders are assembling their coaching staff. Klint Kubiak, who served as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl-winning season, returns as head coach, with assistant HC Mike McCoy already on board. The team now turns to hiring offensive and defensive coordinators.

After securing Mike McCoy as assistant HC, Vegas now shifts focus to its coordinator roles. The team will interview former Raiders defensive line coach Rob Leonard for the DC job, a move that could please Maxx Crosby. Next up: interviews for offensive coordinator candidates.

The Raiders have begun this process by interviewing Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson for the offensive coordinator job, according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero.

We knew the Raiders would interview some Seahawks candidates, not only because they were the best team in the NFL last season, winning the Super Bowl, but also because of Kubiak’s connection. Jackson and Kubiak are fairly close, so this hire would make sense in that aspect. And, without having any offensive coordinator experience, you don’t have to worry about Jackson in terms of calling plays. Kubiak is doing that.

If the Raiders hire Frisman Jackson, what will he bring as their new offensive coordinator?

Who is Frisman Jackson?

Jackson has 15 years of coaching experience; however, he’s never been a coordinator or called plays. The closest he has come was being a pass game coordinator for the Baylor Bears in 2018-2019, and then the same role with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. Jackson does have seven years of NFL coaching experience, though.

All in all, he actually has more coaching experience than Kubiak, in terms of years. Jackson also played in the NFL, so he brings a players’ coach kind of style that resonates well with players. He played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns for four years, from 2002-2005.

This wouldn’t be a bad hire for the Raiders. However, this is only them getting started in this process. There are likely more interviews to come.
