The Tennessee Vols just lost a football commit because of one of their big offseason moves
It’s been an active offseason for the Tennessee Vols.
The Tennessee Vols lost a three-star commit on Friday, and it was because of one of program’s big offseason moves.
2027 three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield told Rivals on Friday that he has decommitted from Tennessee.
Whitfield, 5-11/185 pounds from Orlando, FL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 37 cornerback in the nation and the No. 34 player in the state of Florida. He had been committed to Tennessee since October.
Kamauri Whitfield decommitted from Tennessee because of defensive coaching staff changes
Whitfield told Rivals that he decommitted from Tennessee because of the Vols’ recent defensive coaching staff changes.
“I have decommitted from Tennessee,” said Whitfield to Rivals. “The guys I had relationships with are no longer there. That was the biggest reason for my decommitment. They made a lot of changes with the defensive staff.”
The Vols moved on from defensive coordinator Tim Banks and cornerbacks coach Willie Martinez earlier this offseason (additionally, new cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter left UT this week for the NFL).
Whitfield’s decision didn’t come as a big surpise as he told On3 in January that Florida is not too far away from Tennessee in his recruitment.
“This visit definitely helped Florida,” said Whitfield to On3. “They’re not too far away from Tennessee. I will be back at Florida, and they will definitely get an official visit.”
Tennessee now has four players committed to its 2027 recruiting class.
