You just know the latest George Pickens intel is about to be blown out of proportion by multiple media outlets and fans. I’m here to calm things down.

You see, it’s a big week for Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys, as the window to franchise tag players opens on Tuesday. One thing you can bet on is plenty of contract speculation in the coming weeks. But it’s one small detail about Pickens’ first season in Dallas that is already causing strong reactions across the NFL world.

Latest Pickens intel raises concerns for many

A celebrated aspect of Pickens’ first year with the Cowboys is the fact that he’s shown more maturity than he did during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Pickens got into enough trouble in 2025 to be fined by the team.

“That doesn’t mean those issues disappeared when he arrived in Dallas,” Archer wrote in a recent article. “Coach Brian Schottenheimer alluded to Pickens still being late to things, and multiple sources said Pickens was fined during the season.”

The intel is new, but it shouldn’t be a surprise to those paying attention.

Let’s recap. We know Pickens was benched—alongside CeeDee Lamb—for the opening drive of the Cowboys’ Week 11 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders after missing curfew the night before the game. Additionally, the team has alluded to Pickens being tardy to meetings.

We also know Pickens posted an expletive message aimed at Richard Sherman in December after the former Seattle Seahawks criticized him for his effort against the Detroit Lions in Week 14. The Instagram story was quickly taken down by Pickens.

It’s possible all of those were fine-worthy events behind closed doors. But is it an issue for the Cowboys?

Cowboys are happy with Pickens

Can Pickens be better off the field? Absolutely. Has his attitude and behavior proven to be a problem for the Cowboys? Not to them. Not only are players like Dak Prescott and Lamb speaking out on their desire to bring Pickens back, but Schottenheimer and Jones have consistently shown a desire to re-sign him.

“I’m going to judge George on the body of work and his body of work shows that he is an elite player,” Schottenheimer said back in December after criticisms to Pickens’ effort.

“I’m looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy a long time,” said Jones earlier this month.

If Pickens was getting into trouble with coaches or teammates and creating locker room drama, I’d get talking about this as a big deal. But it’s not.

It’s no secret he’s an individual you want to manage carefully, but I don’t view any of this impacting the Cowboys’ admitted desire to sign him to a long-term extension.
