Seahawks have an obvious replacement for running back Kenneth Walker should he sign with a new team in 2026 NFL free agency

If Kenneth Walker isn’t back, the Seahawks can find a replacement that might be better in the long run.

Kenneth Walker couldn’t have had a better contract year for the Seattle Seahawks if he tried. Totaling career highs in games played and yards from scrimmage, Walker capped off a huge year with a Super Bowl MVP and dominant performance against the New England Patriots.

Now he heads into NFL free agency, with the first domino on his NFL future potentially falling as soon as this week when the franchise tag window opens. However, if Walker were to hit the open market and sign elsewhere, the Seahawks would immediately have a major void to fill. Luckily for them, there just so happens to be a perfect fit.

Seahawks should target Breece Hall in free agency if Kenneth Walker leaves

We did a fun little project at A to Z Sports this week. With the NFL Scouting Combine next week, it’s safe to say it’s mock draft season. But diving headfirst into the NFL Draft while ignoring free agency is kind of like skipping over Thanksgiving to get to Christmas.

So we decided to do a mock draft in terms of NFL free agency. Teams were ranked in order of salary cap space, and the Seahawks had the sixth pick. Kenneth Walker was already off the board, but his potential replacement was not, so I made the pick.

Should the Seahawks lose the Super Bowl MVP, they can fill that void with Breece Hall. I would say he’s a notch below Walker as a pure runner, but when healthy and surrounded by a halfway decent offensive line, Hall went for almost 1,500 all-purpose yards and nine total touchdowns in 2023. You put him behind that Seahawks line, and I believe he can better those numbers, while giving Seattle a pass game option that was foreign to the offense with Walker.

Why Breece Hall makes sense for the Seahawks

Klint Kubiak may be gone, but the Seahawks have hired a Kyle Shanahan disciple who will be integrating a nearly identical scheme to the one we saw win the Seahawks the Super Bowl this past season. Brian Fleury worked as the tight ends coach for the San Francisco 49ers, the very place that has developed the wide zone system into what it is in the modern NFL.

That just so happens to be the system that Hall has thrived in. Not to mention, Hall brings a level of pass protection and receiving ability that has never been a strong suit for Walker. He’s a true three-down back, who could have the Seahawks sleeping soundly if they lose out on Walker.
