According to the New York Post, Hickman was approached by four individuals on Allen Street in NYC shortly after 4:30 a.m. and that’s when the dispute broke out. One suspect was stated to have slugged Hickman before taking off.

The Browns release statement on Ronnie Hickman

Cleveland released a statement on Saturday afternoon with good news following the incident

“Safety Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel. Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family.”

Hickman had a breakout season for the Browns in 2025 where he started in all 17 games in his third season. The former undrafted free agent recorded 103 tackles and two interceptions for a terrific Browns defense.

Hickman successfully made the jump to being a full-time starter for the Browns and looked the part. Hickman had played in 24 games in his first two seasons, then took over for Juan Thornhill in 2025.

Following what could have been a situation that ended up much worse, it’s good news for Hickman to be home and recovering.
