The New York Giants won’t be overhauling their entire roster this offseason — that’s not possible in the NFL — but there will likely be some significant changes.

New Giants head coach John Harbaugh made it clear when he was hired in January that he wants players who “love football”.

“To me, the number one thing is we have to have guys that love football,” said Harbaugh. “You just have to. It’s football. What are we here for? What do we do? What is this building for? It’s for football. This is a football team. We need guys that love everything about football. They love the games. They love the practices. They love the weightlifting. They love the meetings. They love the dining hall. They love every part of football.

“If you love football, guys, if you love football, you’re going to want to be here. You’re going to want to drive in that parking lot every single day. You’re going to want to walk through those doors, you’re going to want to walk up in those halls, you’re going to want to get in front of that tape and watch tape every single day because you’re going to be around a bunch of guys that love what you love. They love football, because that’s what we’re going to be doing, football, all the time, every day. If there’s guys around that don’t love football, Joe, we’re probably going to let those guys go play someplace else because if you don’t love football, you’re not going to love it here because we’ll be doing football. That’s the plan.”

Harbaugh is in New York because the Giants have only won 13 games over the last three seasons. It’s inevitable that some roster change will take place.

ESPN says former first round pick of the Giants needs a fresh start

ESPN named one player from each NFL team this week that could use a change of scenery this offseason and they went with offensive lineman Evan Neal for the Giants.

Neal, a former Alabama Crimson Tide standout, was a first round selection by the Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s played in just 29 games over his first four seasons in the NFL due to injury.

“This 2022 first-round pick has been a disappointment,” wrote ESPN’s Aaron Schatz. “Neal washed out at tackle and was supposed to move to guard; but last season, he dealt with a hamstring injury and wasn’t active for a single game. He’s almost assuredly headed to another team this offseason, and perhaps he can be useful as an interior lineman elsewhere.”

It certainly seems likely that Neal will be on the move this offseason — especially since the Giants declined his fifth-year option (which means Neal will be an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins in March).
