Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke about one potential reunion that has been on fans’ minds lately.

When the Miami Dolphins released former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill earlier this week, the internet was abuzz about the idea of a reunion. There’s also the fact that Hill was back in Kansas City this week for offseason training and rehab work with his longtime trainer, Luther Glover. Combine it all with Eric Bieniemy returning as offensive coordinator, the thought of getting the band back together on the offensive side of the ball — with Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Hill — feels more realistic than ever before.

Speaking to media members on Friday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid weighed in on a potential reunion. While he didn’t rule out the possibility of something happening down the line, he took a very realistic approach to a complex situation that also involves Hill’s recovery from a significant knee injury.

Andy Reid says what others won’t about potential reunion with former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill

While the Chiefs are exploring every possibility as they navigate the 2026 NFL offseason, there exists a pretty substantial obstacle to a reunion with Hill.

“We go through everything and everybody,” Reid told reporters on Friday. “That’s how (General Manager) Brett (Veach) does (it). I don’t even know if Tyreek (Hill) is healthy right now to do anything. I’m sure he’s (Tyreek Hill) working hard on that part of it (and) trying to get all that straightened out. We talk about everything, so there’s nothing happening there, but we know what you know, and he’s out there cranking away trying to get himself back to where he can play, period.”

The reality of this particular situation is that Hill is rehabbing from a very serious knee injury, one that he recently admitted would require a second surgery. Just as there is still a lot to be determined with Patrick Mahomes’ injury recovery timeline, Hill’s knee injury is even more complex. For a player at his position, he realistically might not be ready to get back out there and play in 2026. There are also questions about whether, at 31, he’ll ever be able to return to the same caliber of player. His game is predicated on speed and explosion.

As Coach Reid alludes, Hill’s focus shouldn’t be on finding his next team right now. It should be about getting himself back to a point where he can return to the football field and play. At that point, maybe they’ll revisit the idea of a reunion. Until then, anything else is simply a pipedream built on nostalgia.
