Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson willing to do what few others will at 2026 NFL Scouting Combine
Former Alabama QB Ty Simpson will have a huge opportunity to boost his NFL Draft stock by throwing at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.
The offseason is underway for the Alabama Crimson Tide, as it looks ahead to the 2026 season, but former players are also looking ahead to the next chapters of their careers.
The Crimson Tide will be well represented in the 2026 NFL Draft, as it always is, and one player can turn the whole draft upside down. QB Ty Simpson could likely be the second QB taken in the NFL Draft, but where he goes could spiral the rest of the draft and send teams into a frenzy.
Now, Simpson has a massive opportunity to boost his stock before the draft after the latest development regarding the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.
Ty Simpson will be the headliner at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine as the top QB throwing
The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is the first opportunity for Simpson to impress all 32 teams this offseason, and now, his hype is gaining even more steam with reports saying he will be participating in throwing drills.
The news of Simpson throwing is even more critical after projected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza announced that he’s waiting until Indiana’s Pro Day to throw. I asked A to Z Sports Alabama writer Rob Gregson for his reaction to Simpson’s big decision and why it’s so important.
“The decision to throw from Ty Simpson may come as a surprise, but the truth is, Simpson’s competitive drive was never going to allow him not to throw. With Fernando Mendoza electing to wait until his Pro Day to throw, Simpson immediately becomes the best quarterback competing in Indianapolis, and by a wide margin.”
“In terms of his actual drills, I just want to see him be precise. Show the touch and velocity on middle-of-the-field throws, and show the deep-ball location down the boundary. He will be able to easily show his leadership skills in between drills; it’s just about taking advantage of the opportunity.” – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama
Ty Simpson can become a first-round lock with a strong offseason
Simpson has been gaining steam early in the NFL Draft process, with multiple experts projecting him to go in the back half of the first round. This is one of the worst offseasons to need a quarterback, with a weak free-agent group and a limited NFL Draft class, so Simpson can be the next-best option after Mendoza.
Dante Moore and Trinidad Chambliss both returned to college for another season, which threw a wrench into the plans of many teams. A strong week at the NFL Scouting Combine can ascend Simpson into the top-20 picks of the draft, and a potential option for the New York Jets at No. 16 overall.
