Head coach Mike Vrabel led a miraculous turnaround that culminated in the New England Patriots winning the AFC Championship and falling just short of Super Bowl LX.

The team is heading into the offseason feeling way ahead of schedule and needs to attack it with that in mind. This makes free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft even more important than in recent years.

A new mock draft from A to Z Sports has the Patriots pulling off a big selection in the first round, with them landing a player that this time last year was viewed as a lock to go in the top 10.

Patriots land Clemson star EDGE T.J. Parker in a new 2026 NFL mock draft

“T.J. Parker could have elected to return to Clemson, but when I spoke with him at the Senior Bowl he felt confident that he was going to be able to impress NFL decision-makers this spring. He definitely did that at the Senior Bowl with his signature long-arm pass rush move. Parker is definitely one who could impress at the NFL Combine, too. The Patriots need to add some edge rushers for their defensive-minded head coach in Mike Vrabel. They start that here with Parker.” – Travis May, A to Z Sports NFL Draft analyst

Parker was considered a top candidate to be the first player selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Clemson Tigers’ disaster of a 2025 season derailed that possibility and negatively impacted every single player on their roster’s draft stock.

His first chance to show the league he can still be a top prospect was at the Senior Bowl, and Parker knocked that opportunity out of the park. Those in attendance raved about how dominant he looked in practice against some of the top offensive linemen prospects in the class.

The Patriots desperately need to improve their pass rush this offseason. The team finished with only 35 sacks in the regular season, tied for the fifth-fewest in the league. They didn’t have a single player with double-digit sacks, with Harold Landry III leading the team with 8.5.

Parker has the potential to be the Patriots’ sack leader as a rookie. And if they can land that type of player at pick 31, that would feel like a home run for New England.

The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off this week, and Parker will again have the chance to show the league that he still deserves to be a first-round pick. The Patriots will be hoping he doesn’t grade himself out of their range, though.
