The Philadelphia Eagles are putting the finishing touches on their new coaching staff for Jalen Hurts’ offense. Nick Sirianni has taken some risks already with outside hires, but he’s keeping a couple of familiar faces in the fold for next season as well.

Eagles make key promotion on offensive coaching staff under Sean Mannion

According to Matt Zenitz, the Eagles are expected to promote Montgomery VanGorder to assistant quarterbacks coach. He was a quality control assistant last season with the Eagles.

“Prior to entering the NFL, VanGorder spent six seasons as an offensive quality control coach at Georgia from 2019-24, including two years working primarily with the Bulldogs’ quarterbacks (2023-24). In that time, he assisted two CFP National Championship-winning teams and helped Georgia record one of the most dominant runs in modern college football history.” — Eagles team website

Philadelphia also recently chose Parks Frazier as their next quarterbacks coach. He is their former passing game coordinator, keeping some continuity along an offensive coaching staff undergoing a massive makeover.

VanGorder family name history with Notre Dame football

I discussed the connection between the VanGorder family and the Fighting Irish football program. The fans of their team may be concerned if they’re also an Eagles faithful, but there is also reason to believe that Montgomery will find success in Philly.

“The last name VanGorder is not a popular one around South Bend. Notre Dame fans will cringe thinking of former defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, who roamed the sidelines as the defensive play caller from 2014-16. During that time, the Notre Dame defense got progressively, and seriously limited a tremendous Irish offense during the 2015 season. The GIFs with VanGorder will live on forever, and Notre Dame fans will cringe with every mention of his name.

While the older VanGorder will not be remembered fondly, his son has quickly gained a strong reputation as a young coach. He was a walk-on quarterback for the Fighting Irish until 2017. He then transferred for his final year at Youngstown State to get on the field. VanGorder quickly made the transition to his coaching career after his final year and has gained a reputation as a strong quarterback mind.” — Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports Notre Dame
