The Tennessee Vols are no longer in the mix for a 2028 five-star quarterback that was once labeled by The Athletic as “the next big thing” in recruiting.

2028 five-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence revealed his top 10 schools to 247Sports this week and he didn’t include Tennessee.

Miami, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Kentucky, Oregon, Notre Dame, Florida, and Virginia Tech made the cut for Lawrence.

Lawrence, 6-foot-1/202 lbs from Miami, FL, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 8 player in the state of Florida. He’s also rated as the No. 27 overall player in the 2028 recruiting class.

Tennessee was previously among Neimann Lawrence’s top schools

Tennessee was previously among Lawrence’s top schools.

In early December, Lawrence told On3 that Tennessee was one of the programs “standing out” in his recruitment.

Lawrence camped with the Vols last summer.

Maybe Lawrence saw Tennessee recently take a commitment from 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker and decide that opportunities elsewhere would be more attractive. Or maybe both sides decided it wouldn’t be a good fit. Either way, unless something changes, the Vols won’t be in the mix for the five-star quarterback moving forward.
