Perfect draft fit for Browns says playing for Todd Monken would be amazing, and he’s picked to play for Cleveland’s head coach once before
An interesting development with an NFL draft fit the Cleveland Browns already have a connection to out of Georgia.
The NFL Scouting Combine is here and it means the offseason is getting ready to heat up in a major way.
For the Cleveland Browns, major change is coming on the offensive side of the football. Tight end David Njoku already announced he wouldn’t be back in free agency because the Browns plan to get younger on offense.
Cleveland has Harold Fannin Jr. as their clear star tight end and he showed it as a rookie by going over 700 receiving yards. With Njoku heading out the Browns are going to need more tight end depth, and there’s a nice fit waiting for them in the draft.
Todd Monken’s connection with Georgia TE Oscar Delp
Delp is a potential Day 3 target for the Browns when the draft gets here in April. Delp can be both a blocker and receiving threat, and he’d give the Browns another young piece on offense. Monken’s time at Georgia left an impact on Delp. Notably, the Browns have held a meeting with Delp as well.
“I chose Georgia and part of the reason because of Todd Monken,” Delp said on Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “Watching what he does with the tight ends, their offensive scheme, it’s amazing. He’s an awesome guy. He’s a super down-to-earth coach and he’s a guy who’s going to coach you hard and that’s what I want in a coach.”
The way he uses tight ends and just how detailed he is in everything he does, whether it’s alignments or plays and depths, it’s unreal.”
“To be able to play for coach Monken again and all the coaches he has on that staff, it would be amazing,” Delp finished with.
There’s no denying how Delp clearly views Monken as a head coach. Of course, he’s a player awaiting an opportunity in the NFL, but his words on Monken’s offensive design should hold value. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Delp’s season in Athens was 2022, which was the last season Monken was the offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs.
Delp was a consistent contributor for the Bulldogs the last three seasons by going for at least 240 receiving yards each season with 14 games played in all three years. Delp caught 20 passes for 261 yards with a touchdown in 2025. His mark of 13.1 yards per reception as a senior was the best of his college career.
When new coaches are inserted within NFL teams they always want to be able to bring in some players they specifically want. If Delp is one of those players the Browns want to target in the draft, and it appears they do, it would make a ton of sense from both a needs and background standpoint.
