Minnesota Vikings now know key detail that will impact Jordan Addison’s future
If the Minnesota Vikings want to keep Jordan Addison, it won’t be cheap.
The Minnesota Vikings have a major decision to make with wide receiver Jordan Addison.
He is going into his fourth season in the NFL, and also coming off his worst season. It’s a tough one for the Vikings to parse out, because it’s not just his on-field performance that matters. Addison has continued to have off-the-field issues. The entire package is where the Vikings have some serious decision to make, and it became a much clearer picture on Friday.
Jordan Addison’s fifth-year option is set
On Friday afternoon, the NFL released multiple different financial aspects for NFL teams, including the salary cap being set at $301.2 million. The other aspect that is important to the Vikings is the fifth-year option for the 2023 NFL Draft class. Those numbers were released on Friday with Addison’s being set at $18 million.
That’s a hefty number for Addison to get in his fifth year, and it could go up to $23.852 million if he makes the Pro Bowl in 2026. Even so, that’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. $18 million would make Addison the 25th-ranked receiver in terms of average annual value in the NFL, right behind Jabobi Meyers and just ahead of Jerry Jeudy.
That’s a small price to pay for a talented receiver like Addison. There are going to be legitimate reasons to not give Addison a fully guaranteed $18 million, but he deserves it based on talent and production.
It would behoove the Vikings to give Addison that fifth-year option, as his talent level is closer to the likes of DeVonta Smith at $25 million per season. It would still be smart to give him the fifth-year option if they do plan to trade him, as it will give the Vikings more leverage.
They will have until just after the draft to make a decision on the fifth-year option, but the answer is likely yes.
