2026 NFL Combine did a great job of showing the Sooners just how bad they’ve messed up the last few years

The Sooners had some talented players in Deion Burks and Brenen Thompson.

There’s no secret that the Oklahoma Sooners have been bad the last two years on offense. That’s caused them not use some pretty elite players to the best of their abilities.

Of course, the immediate one that comes to mind is Deion Burks. In 2024, he wasn’t used well at all, given his injuries and the offense’s ranking among the worst in the country. Last season, he sort of fell out of the offense. Teams game-planned to stop him at the beginning of the season, which opened everything up for Isaiah Sategna. With the 2026 NFL Combine this week, it really showed just how badly they messed up in not using Burks to the best of his abilities.

Despite these setbacks, Burks has all the tools to be great, as he demonstrated on Saturday. He finished top-five in every single Combine drill he participated in.

And, he’s not the only one, either.

Sooners also missed out big-time on Brenen Thompson

We all remember Thompson, who left the Sooners after that terrible 2024 season, and then became a star under his previous offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby. He was amazing for the Bulldogs last season, and everyone saw what the Sooners were missing.

On Saturday, former Sooner and Bulldogs WR Brenen Thompson led the WR group, running the fastest 40-yard dash of the year. His smaller frame may impact draft stock, but his speed stands out.

Thompson tallied 1,054 yards on 57 catches with six touchdowns for the Bulldogs. With more effective quarterback play, his stats could’ve reached 65 receptions, 1,300 yards, and eight TDs. Next Gen Stats clocked him at 23.95 mph in a 4.26-second 40-yard dash, faster than Xavier Worthy’s 23.62 mph at the 2024 combine.
