Micah Parsons is on his journey to get back on the football field in September. On Tuesday, the star edge rusher shared an update on his ACL recovery, and it gives Green Bay Packers fans a lot of reasons to feel good about the process.

Injury and surgery

The two-month mark that Parsons refers to is based on his knee surgery. Parsons tore his ACL in Week 14 against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14, but the surgery to repair his ligament happened on Dec. 29. It’s still a long road, but Parsons is doing everything possible to return quickly.

“Sounds like everything went well,” head coach Matt LaFleur said days after the surgery. “He’s ahead of schedule already.”

Right after the injury, Parsons indicated that his goal is to return in September. Usually, ACL injuries take around nine to 12 months until the player is ready for games. The edge defender is expected to miss the first few games of the regular season, but he mentioned after the 2025 season a desire to not start the 2026 season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP), which would force him to miss at least four games.

Recently, general manager Brian Gutekunst talked about Parsons’ impact in the locker room, beyond what he’s done on the football field.

“Obviously, it didn’t end the way we wanted to,” Gutekunst said, “but I couldn’t be happier with making that move and what Micah brought to our football team. Not only on the field with the way he disrupted offenses and tilted the field in our favor, but he was an excellent addition to our locker room as well, and that’s important to us. I’m excited for what the years to come with him are going to look like.”

Micah Parsons is under contract with the Packers through 2029. He’s set to make $40.837 million in 2026, $38 million in 2027, and $41 million in 2028. The defender finished his first season for the Packers with 12.5 sacks and 79 pressures, receiving a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro honors.
