Saints knock down first dominoes to begin free agency spending spree plans to improve Kellen Moore’s team
New Orleans is ready to makes moves this offseason.
Khai Harley, Mickey Loomis, and co. in the New Orleans Saints front office are getting to work.
With an important free agency period and the 2026 NFL Draft around the corner, the Saints are making sure they have som room to maneuver in order to improve Kellen Moore’s roster for 2026 and beyond.
Saints restructure multiple key veteran players
According to reports, the Saints have already restructured some different veteran players, ahead of free agency opening next week.
- TE Juwan Johnson
- RB Alvin Kamara
- “The Saints are using a mechanism to count $10.155 million of Alvin Kamara’s base salary as a signing bonus for cap purposes. It saves $8.124M on the 2026 cap for now, while keeping their options open on Kamara’s contract and status moving forward.” — Tom Pelissero
- S Justin Reid
- EDGE Chase Young
New Orleans will have the space to be more aggressive in free agency
Via OverTheCap.com, the Saints are already sitting pretty with $20 million in current cap space. That number can still increase, given any more restructures, contract voids, and other shifts. The Saints are expected to be more aggressive on the free agent market this offseason than recent years past.
New Orleans needs to address their interior offensive line, wide receiver, and potentially running back during free agency. On defense, pass rusher, cornerback, and linebacker may be the three biggest areas for improvement in upside and depth.
Keep in mind that the Saints do have a plethora of draft capital as well. They may try to swing a trade or two to acquire proven, experienced talent that can help their young players succeed going forward.
Regardless, it sounds like New Orleans believes in Kellen Moore’s plan with Tyler Shough at QB and want to attack an opportunity to win a comparatively weak NFC South in the near future.
