But for now, it doesn’t sound like Tennessee fans have anything to worry about.
Vols quarterback commit Derrick Baker could check out other schools this spring and summer
According to 247Sports national analyst Tom Loy, 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker could take visits to Auburn and Georgia this spring and summer.
Baker, 6-foot-1/226 pounds from Alpharetta, GA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 43 quarterback in the nation and the No. 84 player in the state of Georgia.
Baker committed to Tennessee last month.
Loy also noted that it will be “tough” for another school to flip Baker from the Vols.
“Although it has only been a month (since committing), he remains completely fired up about his future in Knoxville,” wrote Loy. “He’ll be back on campus for his official visits from June 5-7. He said that he committed to the Vols due to his relationships and the fact that, despite his injury, the staff continued to make him a priority. The 6-1, 226-pounder from the 2027 class might take a few visits elsewhere this offseason, most notably Auburn and Georgia, but Tennessee will be tough to beat.”
It’s certainly not a surprise that Tennessee will have to fend off other schools to keep Baker committed.
VolQuest’s Austin Price, in fact, mentioned last month that other schools will try to flip Baker from the Volunteers.
“He’s a thick kid,” said Price in February on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “He weighs 225ish. He’s got a strong arm. He’s got to stay healthy and stay on the field, but they loved what they saw from him at camp last summer. That’s when they offered him. That’s when they really started to go harder at him. They were after him all fall — even when he was injured.
“And then (Vols OC) Joey Halzle was down there to see him shortly after he got cleared back to start throwing again. And Tennessee just kind of stayed on that one. And they’ll have to stay on it because he’s going to start playing more as he gets healthier, and I’m sure others will come back in here trying to flip him. So that’s one that Tennessee will have to stay on top of.”
Tennessee currently has four players committed to its 2027 recruiting class.
