Former Tennessee Vols defensive tackle Shy Tuttle is sticking around in Washington DC.

The Washington Commanders officially announced on Monday that they’ve signed Tuttle to a contract extension

The terms of the deal were not announced.

Tuttle, who turns 31 in October, has had a nice NFL career after going undrafted in 2019.

The North Carolina native, who has also spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and Tennessee Titans, has totaled 247 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks during his NFL career.

Tuttle also has one of the most memorable “big man” interceptions in recent years. The former Vol intercepted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in 2019 and then stiff armed the veteran straight into the turf.

Shy Tuttle was part of one of the most bizarre stories in Tennessee Vols history

Vols fans likely remember Tuttle best for his part in one of the most bizarre stories in Tennessee football history.

In 2017, Tuttle suffered a black eye, and there were rumblings that it was caused by teammate Nigel Warrior.

ESPN’s Rece Davis even referenced the rumors with a clever pun during College GameDay

Butch Jones, who was fired as Tennessee’s head coach a couple of months later, famously told reporters that Tuttle “landed on a helmet and that’s the truth”.

No one, though, believed Butch’s story.

It was just one of the many strange moments that eventually cost Butch his job at Tennessee.
