The Las Vegas Raiders were able to sign all of their free agents from Monday, despite getting superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby back on the books. This means we got to talk to and hear from new center Tyler Linderbaum, who was the biggest fish in the free agency pond.

Raiders land their center in Tyler Linderbaum, but why did he choose Vegas?

Any team that didn’t have a great situation at the center position wanted Linderbaum. However, the Raiders outbid everyone and signed him to a three-year, $81 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in the NFL at $27 million per year. That’s the highest paid a center has ever been paid by nine million, with the previous high being Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey.

We know that’s the biggest reason Linderbaum chose to sign with the Raiders—they gave him a ton of money, and who can really say no to that? But what are the other reasons he weighed when deciding to accept John Spytek’s offer?

“This is something I want to be a part of and build into a championship program,” Linderbaum said at the introductory press conference on Thursday. “It’s going to take work; it’s going to take everyone. Laying the foundation, and it takes the guys in the locker room to decide how good we want to be.”

It seems that other big free agents and players around the league can start to see what Vegas is building. Sure, it’s been said before during the offseason, but this time really, truly does feel different. The Raiders are spending big money on good players, not bad players whom they think they are getting a bargain for.

Not only that, but it’s clear they have a plan. Vegas signed all players under 30, and almost all of the contracts are three-year deals, which must be the timeline they feel they have. Linderbaum sees something special in this team, but so have others in the past—at least others have said so.

Just like Quay Walker also said at the introductory presser: It’s one thing to get up there and talk about it. They have to go and do it.
