Jeremiah Smith just added to the hype growing around Ohio State football freshman not named Chris Henry Jr., and he’s already impressing

Ohio State looks like they may have more than one offensive freshman making plays for them in 2026.

The Ohio State Buckeyes getting back on the practice field means the first look at what the 2026 team is going to look like. There’s a whole lot of new with this Ohio State team, north of 50 newcomers are now a part of the team between transfer portal additions and freshmen.

Ohio State lost a lot from last year’s team, but they do return key pieces like WR Jeremiah Smith and QB Julian Sayin.

When it comes to freshmen expected to get early playing time, former five-star WR Chris Henry Jr. is an easy candidate on the outside. But another freshman is already impressing too.

Legend Bey is going to push to have a role as a true freshman

Ohio State sees great potential in former Texas high school quarterback Legend Bey, now set to play a running back/wide receiver hybrid role for the Buckeyes. Ohio State pushed hard to gain Bey’s signature around signing day over Tennessee and we’re already seeing why.

“He played quarterback in high school, so he has a tremendous skill set, and he’s dynamic when the ball is in his hands,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said earlier in the week. “We see him as somebody that could play running back and also move out to wide receiver, sort of like — I wasn’t here with Curtis Samuel, but I watched a lot of film from when he was here. He kind of reminds me of that style of player.

“I think we’re trying to get a feel for that now, because really, he played a lot of quarterback in high school, so we’re trying to see what best fits him when he gets moving. So today was just the start. You can see him flash, but he’s got a lot of football to learn.”

Jeremiah Smith thinks highly of Legend Bey

Smith knows a thing or two about being an incoming freshman with expectations and going on to shatter said expectations. Ohio State’s star junior went for over 1,300 receiving yards as a true freshman in 2024 after entering the program as the No. 1 player in his class.

No. 4 in scarlet took to X to agree with a lot saying Bey is going to be a household name at Ohio State.

Bey is going to get a chance to be a player the Buckeyes use in space and get the ball in a variety of ways. If he can show he has strong ball security and can create explosive plays, we’ll see the 5-foot-10, 177-pound newcomer on the field come Sept.
