Commanders’ schedule surprising top-30 visit with NFL Draft prospect after fixing position in free agency
The Commanders schedule their next top-30 visit, which wasn’t expected after all of the defensive help they added in free agency
The Washington Commanders have been active, and the roster is in a much better place after signing a load of players in free agency.
They aren’t done yet, however, and there are still plenty of players to sign. Then it’s time to focus on the 2026 NFL Draft, and top-30 visits are starting to be scheduled. The Commanders already have a top-30 visit set for WR Makai Lemon, which makes sense, but their latest one surprised me after seeing the pass rush help they added in free agency.
Commanders schedule top-30 visit with EDGE Romello Height
The Commanders are ready to host prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft, with just over a month remaining until they’re on the clock. Top-30 visits could be used for players they are interested in, or for prospects they have questions about. Adam Peters has a track record of hosting players he likes on a top-30 visit, and the latest scheduled visit is with EDGE prospect Romello Height.
Height is one of the top pass rushers of the NFL Draft, and an intriguing name for the Commanders to target. He’s more of an outside linebacker type of player at 6-3, 239 pounds, which fits Daronte Jones’ scheme in a 3-4 front. Height finished with nine sacks and 62 pressures in 2025, and an elite pass rush win rate of 21.8%.
Jones loves to drop his EDGE rushers in coverage from time to time, and Height had 46 coverage snaps in 2025, which is pretty notable. Height fits exactly what Jones wants on defense, but should they target him?
Should the Commanders draft Romello Height?
Height is projected to be drafted anywhere in the late-second to early-third round of the NFL Draft, so the Commanders would have to take him with pick No. 71 overall if they want him. He’s a high-end pass rusher who wins with speed over size and has an explosive first step that offensive tackles struggle with.
The Commanders added three EDGE players in free agency with Odafe Oweh, K’Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu, but only Oweh received a long-term deal. The defense currently has seven EDGE players on the roster, but Drake Jackson and Javontae Jean-Baptiste aren’t roster locks. Oweh and Jean-Baptiste are the only EDGE players on the roster under contract after the 20026 season, so they absolutely need another player as their long-term fix on the other side of the line.
If they don’t take Height, expect them to be in on other EDGE prospects on Day 3, but don’t rule out one of the top players with the No. 7 overall pick. Peters will explore all options, and everything is on the table.
