Bears recent second-round pick just announced a major decision that could impact his future in Chicago after the 2026 season
Gervon Dexter Sr. has a new super agent going into the final year of his rookie contract.
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to drafting defensive linemen, a conversation that is becoming louder the closer we get to the 2026 NFL Draft with the Bears widely expected to select a top defensive lineman within the first two rounds.
Poles did, however, have one hit in 2023 second-round pick Gervon Dexter Sr. after drafting him out for Florida. In three seasons with the team, Dexter has played 49 games with 33 starts while recording 13.5 sacks, 115 total tackles, and 42 QB hits.
Dexter is coming off the strongest season of his career, production-wise, in a new scheme under defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Now, he heads into the pivotal fourth and final season of his rookie contract, and he just announced a big decision that could impact his future in Chicago.
Gervon Dexter Sr. joins sports agency Rosenhaus Sports ahead of the 2026 season
Dexter announced he has changed agents ahead of the 2026 season, joining Rosenhaus Sports. Rosenhaus Sports is a giant in the NFL agency world and known for securing high-dollar deals for their clients with an aggressive approach. With Dexter going into a contract year, it makes sense for him to make the switch before negotiating his first NFL extension.
It’s worth noting that Rosenhaus Sports represents former Bears wide receiver DJ Moore and new Bears linebacker Devin Bush. So, the Bears have plenty of recent experience working with them.
Last April, Poles agreed to his first big extension with one of his own draft picks when the Bears locked up 2022 second-round pick Kyler Gordon on a three-year, $40 million extension in mid-April. Last month, Poles let another 2022 second-round pick walk out of the door in Jaquan Brisker. So, what the Bears decide to do with Dexter will be something to watch.
While Dexter had a career-best season in 2025, that’s not to say he’s the perfect fit in Allen’s scheme and the kind of player he wants on his defense. Which is why Dexter’s name was floated around at the NFL Combine as a potential trade target. Such a move was debunked due to the lack of interior depth on the Bears’ roster, but that was before the team signed Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street, and James Lynch. Not to mention there’s a strong possibility the Bears add another interior defensive lineman to the room in next month’s 2026 NFL Draft.
Could the new bodies in the room make Dexter expendable before his final season? Maybe talks start up? If so, you’d want a strong agent on you side to handle that situation. If the Bears decide to keep Dexter, he’ll still want to explore extension talks or get ready to hit the open market next offseason.
It’s truly an uncertain future for Dexter going into this upcoming season and easy to see why he would make this kind of decision when he did.
